ADOPTION Process

Like many charities, our process is thorough ensuring that we find the perfect home for all our rescue animals and finding the perfect match for you too.

Our re-homing process looks at each animal individually to help match you with the right pet. We don’t have any fixed rules about what makes the perfect home because we know every pet and their needs are different.

Adopting a dog

When we try to match you with a dog, we take in to consideration all aspects of your lifestyle.

When we think we have found a suitable match, we will arrange an appointment for you to come and meet them. A staff member will accompany you on a walk and answer any questions you may have.

Each animal is treated as an individual and their needs will vary. Some may take longer to bond with their new owners therefore many visits may be required. If everything is going well, we will carry out a home check to ensure your household is suitable for the individual needs of your potential new family member.

If the home check is approved we will then look to starting the weeks trial. When an animal is adopted, they will go out on a one week trial period to ensure that they are settling well and fitting in well with their new family.

The S.A.R.A. staff are here if you need support and advice when taking your new pet home. Our adoption fee is £150. This donation helps towards some of the veterinary treatment given.

Adopting a cat

When we try to match you with a cat, we take in to consideration all aspects of your lifestyle.

When we think we have found a suitable match, we will arrange an appointment for you to come and meet them. A staff member will accompany you to the cattery to meet your new potential feline friend.

Each animal is treated as an individual and their needs will vary.  Some may take longer to bond with their new owners therefore many visits may be required. If everything is going well, we will carry out a home check to ensure that the home and surrounding area is safe, if the cat needs access to the outdoors (we would not rehome a cat who needs access to the outdoors in a high traffic area).

If the home check is approved we will then look to starting the weeks trial. When an animal is adopted, they will go out on a one week trial period to ensure that they are settling well and fitting in well with their new family. Cats who like to go outside must not be let out until they have been in their new home for at least nine weeks, depending on the cat.

The S.A.R.A. staff  are here if you need support and advice when taking your new pet home. Our adoption fee is £100 for one cat or £160 for a pair. This helps cover some of our veterinary costs.
